It was the war at home that made Kaleb restless. The resentment he faced from his own generation for his duty as a combat Marine in Vietnam made him decide to backpack around the world, not knowing what he was looking for. But now it was time to go home. To settle down. As he hitchhiked from LA back to Texas fate had other plans. Just outside of Tucson a murder occurred. And the slayer who ran looked a lot like Kaleb. Except there was an alibi. The young waitress that served him at the time of the murder nearby remembered him. She took him in and found him a job. But rescuing him was not why Kaleb fell in love with her. She needed him in return to rescue her from the self-doubts that plagued her life. He helped her find herself as answers from her own torments somehow helped pacify her inner demons. When Kaleb's father beckoned him to take over the family farm in Texas, they knew that this was the place they would find a life they were finally ready for.
